What does a lesson cost?
€40 for 45 minutes, €50 for 60 minutes. Add 21% VAT if you're 21 or older: €48.40 and €60.50.
The same rate applies whether you're learning piano, voice, or music theory and composition — one teacher, one studio, one price list.
Lessons are booked and paid for individually or as a standing weekly slot; there is no minimum package.
Is there a 30-minute lesson?
Not as a paid option. The shortest paid lesson is 45 minutes. The free first lesson is 30 minutes.
That first half hour is enough to hear how a lesson runs and decide whether it's a fit, without either of you committing to more.
Is there a different rate for children?
No. The price is the same at every age, from a first-time 6-year-old to an adult returning after decades.
Craig has taught children from around age 5 and adults in their seventies at the same rate. What changes with age is the pace and the repertoire, not the price.
Are these private lessons?
Yes, always. Every lesson is one-to-one; there are no group classes.
How does this compare to average piano lesson prices in Utrecht?
The average piano lesson in Utrecht costs around €39 per hour, so Ralston Music's rates sit close to that.
What the average doesn't show is who's teaching: a doctorate in composition and theory, a master's in piano performance, and decades of teaching and stage experience, all one-to-one.
Do voice, theory and online lessons cost the same?
Yes. Voice, music theory and composition and online lessons are all €40 for 45 minutes and €50 for 60, with the same VAT rule.
What about performance coaching?
Different pricing: a single 60-minute session is €50, or €45 per session in a package of five.
See performance coaching for what a session covers — it's a separate service from the instrument and voice lessons above, not just a longer lesson.

How much does a piano lesson cost per hour in Utrecht?
A 60-minute lesson is €50. For students aged 21 and over, 21% VAT is added, making it €60.50.
Is there a half-hour piano lesson?
Only the free first lesson, which is 30 minutes. Paid lessons start at 45 minutes.
Do I have to pay VAT?
Only if you're 21 or older. Music lessons for students under 21 are VAT-exempt under Dutch tax rules, so the price under 21 is the base rate with nothing added.
Is the first lesson really free?
Yes, 30 minutes, with no obligation to continue and no payment details needed to book it.
Are private piano lessons in Utrecht expensive?
